Late 19th Century Régence Marble Top Commode
This important french commode has a shaped front and three drawers. The commode is decorated with kingwood and tulipwood veneers which are quartered cut, banded, herringbone cut and satinwood string inlay. The commode drawers are divided by brass lined flutes and flanked with brass-lined flutes. The commode rest on bracket feet with an ormolu sabot. Heavy and decorative handles from ormolu adorn the drawers with complimentary escutcheons. The commode has a shaped apron centered with shell and acanthus leaf bronze mount. The top has a matching shaped front with a molded cut edging. We think the marble is Brèche du Nord cut. Circa 1890-1900. We think Parisian made!
