19th Century French Empire Round Side Table

19th Century French Empire Round Side Table

19th Century French Empire Round Side Table

A charming worn walnut french Empire round side table with brass mounts from the mid-19th century. This table has a unique look to me. Plain faded top giving the appearance of multiple warm color tones. Plain top’s were common due to the desire to drape the table with fashionable fabrics for formal settings. Still on its own you see the quality of the table in the legs. Starting with a large turned ball leading to fine brass detail mounts. The leg continues on a reverse taper ending with another detailed brass mount. What is unusual and what I find unique is the urn shaped incorporated into the leg and has the carved edging. This continues into a block foot the surrounded by a bun style foot. A lot of detail in a leg looking so simple. Connecting the three legs is a stretcher leading to a centered by an interesting capped column. Circa 1850-1870.
